In 1976 a lingerie boutique opened its doors on Vendue Range in Charleston, SC. The boutique prospered and it wasn’t long before Bits of Lace relocated to the world famous fashion district at 212 King Street, downtown Charleston. Ownership changed hands and under Ruth’s Brennan new ownership, within a short time, the client base grew and the store’s success warranted yet another move to the current location at 302 King Street.

The 1880s storefront was perfect for the growing business. High ceilings, original crown molding, wrought iron work, ample space in the rear for fitting rooms and a newly constructed mezzanine for stock and office space were just the beginning. Ruth chose the floor plan based on ease of navigation for the customer, making the space more than the typical shopping experience. The boutique is decorated in a style that reflects the fine European lingerie and elegant sleepwear available therein.

This detail-oriented mentality is visible and tangible in the lingerie’s quality and comfort, as well as the professionalism and knowledge of the staff. This level of consideration and training is necessary in order to bring our customers the very best in fine lingerie products and service available. It is our philosophy to bring our customers the highest quality and fashion-forward European lingerie, most of which is rarely found in the United States. Our brands are handpicked by Ruth for each season Spring/Summer, Autumn/Fall shows in New York and Paris, annually.

The core component of Bits of Lace’s business is specialty bra fitting with trained professionals in a personal and private atmosphere. We are proud to offer custom fitting mastectomy bras for clientele. As a trained nurse, Ruth is equipped with all the tools and experience necessary to offer personal attention for this unique fitting. We do not require appointments for fitting or consultation, with the exception of mastectomy clientele.
