Gahirmatha beach located in the Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary, India, supports perhaps the largest nesting population with an average of 398,000 females nesting in a given year.
Green turtles nest on Ascension Island from January through April. They then head westward to Brazilian waters, traveling more than 1500 miles to favored feeding grounds.
Over 90% of nesting activity for the Hawaiian green turtle population occurs at the French Frigate Shoals, inside a National Wildlife Refuge System administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
