The Music Box

THEN: The Music Box was one of the first opened by jazz personality Ada “Bricktop” Smith in 1927. After having managed and worked at Le Grand Duc for several years, Bricktop opened The Music Box just down the street on rue Pigalle. This club did very well because of Bricktop’s connections with various popular jazz musicians who played at her clubs. Bricktop even threw a party for the Prince of Wales at The Music Box. Despite its success, the club’s life was short lived because she could not get a permanent liquor license.
