This satellite image shows the towns of Charklik / Ruoqiang and New Miran in river oases at the base of wide alluvial fans at the foot of the Altyn Tagh / Arjin Shan mountain range.<br />From Charklik / Ruoqiang, you can go north to Korla and Urumqi, west to Cherchen / Qiemo, Hotan, and Kashgar, east -- albeit with a serious four-wheel caravan -- to Dunhuang, southeast then east by public transport through Qinghai to Dunhuang in Gansu, or further southeast to Xining or Golmud in Qinghai and on from Golmud to Lhasa in Tibet.<br />315 , 218 Highway
