National Centre for Antarctic & Ocean Research (NCAOR), Goa
NCAOR, the nodal institute looking after Indian IPY activities, organized the visit of prize-winning students (of the competitions carried out in collaboration with WWF-India under the aegis of Indian IPY Outreach Programme) to Goa for an educational/sightseeing tour during September 2009 as part of their award. They attended a function on Indian Antarctic Activities & a conference on Earth Processes and received their prizes from the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the Delhi University. They also visited ice-core laboratory at NCAOR, the only facility in India to store & process ice-cores, to obtain a first-hand experience of polar research. Also, NCAOR is partially supporting a student from India to join the Antarctic expedition organized by “Student on Ice”-a Canadian non-profit organization, which offers students, who may be future polar researchers, a once-in-lifetime experience of Polar Regions.
