Mt. Hope Cemetery in Colon, Republic of Panama
The Mount Hope or Monte Esperanza Cemetery in Colon, Republic of Panama. This was historically the "Silver Roll" cemetery during the American construction era of the Panama Rail Road and the Panama Canal. The Silver Roll comprised the Black laborers within the segregated Silver and Gold Roll System of the old Panama Canal Zone. Every aspect of life was segregated for the Black workers from birth to the grave. It is located right next to Bethany Baptist Church the rail road tracks entering the City of Colon, just behind Rainbow City on the road to Margarita.
