THEN: Louis Mitchell, a famous bandleader and one of the first to bring Jazz to Paris, opened Chez Mitchell in 1924. Over the course of its history the club moved from rue Pigalle to rue Fontaine before finally settling at 61 rue Blanche. During the final move to rue Blanche, Mitchell renamed the club Chez Florence due to the high demand for the famous signer Florence Embry Jones. Mitchell’s club became a place where the Mitchell family welcomed and initiated African American travelers and expatriates into the Parisian jazz world. The club lasted until 1935.
NOW: The old club’s location has now been turned into a grey apartment building.
