Le Perroquet/ Casino de Paris

THEN: Le Perroquet was a French owned jazz club called a “dancing.” This club served as one example of how French club owners attempted to keep up with the growing jazz craze in Paris. In order to compete with African American owned venues, these club owners would change the format of their establishments to make more room for jazz style dancing as well as invite African American jazz performers to play.
Le Perroquet later became the Casino de Paris on 16 rue de Clichy. Louis Mitchell’s Jazz Kings, an all Black orchestra, performed at the Casino de Paris for 5 years.
NOW: Currently the location holds a recently renovated version of Casino de Paris with beautiful stained glass on the outside. There appeared to only be one large stage inside which still holds both jazz and modern performances.
