Es el lago navegable más alto del mundo. Tiene una superficie de 8,560 km2 y una profundidad máxima de 227 metros y destaca además por la transparencia de sus aguas. Existen 36 islas, siendo las más importantes Taquile y Amantaní.Alberga gran cantidad de aves, como flamencos, huallatas, keles y tiquis, así como variedades de peces (carachis, pejerreyes, truchas, suches e ispis, entre otros ).
