Kitty Memorial tablet

Tablet erected c. 1939 by H.W. McCord, memorializing the narrative of the "loyal slave" known as Kitty. McCord relies heavily of G.G. Smith's Life and Letters of Bishop James Ogood Andrew. The tablet was positioned at the base of one of the gateway oaks of the Oxford Historic Cemetery, near the Andrew family plot (where Miss Kitty is currently believed to be buried.) Note that the account given on the tablet is contested by many local African-American families.
