Support an Inmate - The cost of supporting a woman in the Nangarhar Prison is approximately $1.50 per day. Most are in prison for adultery [raped], although there are several different crimes represented. Most of the inmate population is uneducated. The majority of these women do not have any family support. The children are there because they do not have anyone to take care of them. They need medical and social support as well as education opportunities. There is a doctor that comes to the women's prison three times a week from the men's facility. At this time there is no health plan for the babies. The baby formula is purchased by kind hearted US Correctional staff.
