Khajuraho

Świątynie w Khajuraho, podobnie jak słynny Tadż Mahal oraz świątynie w Waranasi, Jaipurze i Delhi, zaliczane są do najświetniejszych zabytków Indii. Khajuraho to dawna stolica dynastii Chandellów. Świątynie Khadżuraho są wspaniałymi przykładami stylu północnego, ale tak naprawdę największą sławę przyniosły im bogate dekoracje. Zewnętrzne mury świątyń zdobią mistrzowskie rzeźbienia. Ukazują one Indie sprzed tysiąca lat - są na nich bogowie i boginie, wojownicy, muzycy, a także mitologiczne i prawdziwe postacie zwierząt. Wśród dekoracji przeważa niezmiennie powtarzający się temat: erotyka. W każdej świątyni rzucają się w oczy piękne apsary (niebiańskie panny) w kuszących pozach i mithuny (pary w miłosnym uścisku).
