Kakuma Refugee Camp
Located in Kenya's Turkana District, Kakuma Refugee Camp is one of the world's largest refugee camps, housing refugees from South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia and elsewhere. In 2000/2001 approximately 4000 young Southern Sudanese, known as the "Lost Boys and girls of Sudan" were brought to the United States for resettlement. In 2004-05, artist Atem Aleu held art workshops in Kakuma camp with southern Sudanese refugees; some of these paintings have been exhibited in the United States.
