Home schoolers celebrate IPY by making ALISON measurements at Aurora Pond Observatory, Fairbanks, Alaska. Students measure lake ice thickness, consider the insulating properties of snow on ice and calculate thermal conductivity.
During 18-25 February 2007, eight 9th grade students and two teachers from Somers High School, Connecticut, visited Fairbanks, Alaska, to celebrate the beginning of IPY 2007-09 by participating in ALISON (Alaska Lake Ice and Snow Observatory Network).
