Bacharach
Bacharach, an old-established center, is surrounded by its 16th C ring of walls and towers. Above the town is the ruined Burg Stahleck (youth hostel). In the Marktplatz are a number of 16th C half-timbered houses and the Late Romanesque St Peter's Church

Above Kaub is Burg Gutenfels (13th C.). In the middle of the Rhine stands the Pfalzgrafenstein (usually abbreviated to Pfalz), a fortress built in 1326 to enforce the collection of tolls on river traffic.
The Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady; 1308-31), in the old-world little walled town of Oberwesel, has a fine interior (Baroque organ). On the town walls on the lower side of the town is the Gothic Werner Chapel (ca. 1300).

St Goar lies below the massive ruined castle of Rheinfels.
Rüdesheim has developed since the late 19th C. into one of the busiest tourist and holiday centers on the Middle Rhine, with a host of friendly restaurants, particularly in the famous Drosselgasse.
Above Braubach stands the Marksburg, the only hilltop castle on the Rhine which has escaped destruction (museum).
The neo-gothic reconstruction of the 13th C. ruined castle has an excellent view of the Castle Stolzenfels.
