This big wooden snail had been made in September as urban decoration during the celebration of the Palio victory of 16th Aug. 1999 by the Contrada della Chiocciola. The author was Stefano Tozzi. Here, it was on the terrace above the parking nearby Porta S

This is the baptism fountain of the "Contrada del Drago" in Siena. The baptism, a relatively recent institution (1947, first in the Chiocciola) is not a Catholic one, but a civil "blessing" that confirms a newborn in the community for the rest of his life
