Below individual maps, like this one, we have the option to open some 3D apps: the KML link will bring you to Google Earth, then there's the Live.com link that will open a 3D app if you have a certain Microsoft plug-in and you use Internet Explorer, and finally the Worldwind app. Compared to Virtual Globe, those are very heavy programas to install. Virtual Globe, instead, is a light Java applet. Yet, you get a nice global view of the planet with it, as this screenshot shows:
